Simple, social & close to the ocean
The bunk beds are located inside our Rustic Ranch House, part of The Baja Station, a relaxed, beachfront, off-grid space created for travelers who value simplicity, community, and being close to nature.
This is our most basic accommodation option and is ideal for surfers, backpackers, and travelers passing through who are looking for an affordable place to sleep and connect with others.
- Shared bunk room inside the Rustic Ranch House
- Very simple setup focused on function rather than luxury
- Calm, respectful atmosphere with a small number of guests
- Shared bathrooms and showers, cleaned regularly
- Access to shared indoor and outdoor common areas
- Shaded spaces to relax, read, or work
- Close to the ocean with easy access to the beach and surf
- Starlink Wi-Fi available
- Guests also have access to the communal kitchen and dining area with a large 12-seat table, fully equipped with a gas stove, oven, fridge, freezer, and essential cooking tools.
Guests are also welcome to visit The Baja Station Café, located about a one-minute walk away, where you can enjoy beachside drinks, hammocks, Wi-Fi, and additional toilets and showers.
Note: We run entirely on solar power and rely on water deliveries, so we encourage guests to be mindful of energy and water use. While we have backup systems like generators and always aim to keep things running smoothly, life off the grid can have its quirks, especially on cloudy days. If you’re a digital nomad or need guaranteed connectivity for a critical call, just give us a heads-up so we can ensure you’re covered. We’re here to help make your stay as seamless as possible!

Since there is no public transportation on the East Cape, the best way to get around is with a rental car. The East Cape road that leaves from San Jose is paved with concrete until the last 5km, which is then dirt road. There are no gas stations once you leave San Jose so make sure you have plenty in your tank.
From San Jose centro, the journey takes 20 minutes on concrete and another 10 minutes on the dirt road. Add another 25 minutes to get to or from the airport. The dirt road is regularly graded so you do not need a 4x4, although it is best not to mention to the car rental company that you intend to drive to the East Cape.
Driving at night must be done with extreme caution as the road is unlit and there are often cows or donkeys hanging around on the dirt road which you won't see until the last minute, especially when navigating corners. Drive slow and enjoy the views.
